GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY.

On Thursday 18th April, PHM took the initiative to visit a Children’s home in Githurai. It occured to our Director that it had been a while since our organisation had tasked itself in giving back to the community we serve.

As the Easter Holiday drew closer we finally came up with a plan.

Not everyone in our society is fortunate enough to have a decent family unit to keep company when they are alone or even visit during the holidays and a big portion of this group are the Children.

HOUSE OF MERCY CHILDREN’S HOME

House of mercy is a refuge for about 74 boys and girls. The residence is managed by Miss Rose Tambasi, a lovely lady with a very strong will to keep the home up and running for all the kids that depend on her.

SHARING IN THE SPIRIT OF EASTER.

Before our visit we had made it our business to understand what exactly were the needs of the home. We didn’t want to show up, unprepared or give items that were completely useless to kids. So we did some research.

Miss Tambasi, did not want to limit us with a list of items. She however raised the concern that most visitors often donated too much of one thing, if it was Maize flour, everyone was donating too much. I mean, they can’t eat Ugali with even more Ugali.

So we teamed up and armed ourselves with some clothes we didn’t need anymore, then we hit the stores for some cereals, toiletries and later we got some sweets and biscuits (You can’t go see children without Sweets and Biscuits, It’s a crime.)

We arrived in the afternoon just after lunch, it was a sunny and the children had just had lunch so we were sure they were in a good mood. We got a tour of the home and after a introducing ourselves and a few adorable presentations from some of the kids we were ready to mingle.

All in all, it was a fun filled day. We spent time with the kids, shared stories and made plans. It was an experience to behold, an experience that can’t quite be captured here in this post.
